Some in Louisiana going without insurance

This is a very good story by Michael Kunzelman of the Associated Press on people in New Orleans going without homeowners insurance, and people who are reducing their coverage, in response to high premiums.  Obviously, going without insurance is an option only if you don’t have a mortgage, because most lenders are going to require insurance for at least the price of the mortgage.  Some people could save money by raising their deductibles or reducing the coverage to the mortgage amount, rather than the home’s value, but those are risky strategies.
