More On Hurricane-Related Homeowner Rate Increases

Now, I’m sympathetic to people, because I’m people too.  But I can’t help but noticing that one thing that is consistently left out of these kind of stories about skyrocketing homeowner premiums on the Florida coast and elsewhere is the price of the home.  Also, I never see a mention of how much the home has increased in value in the past five years. Just sayin’.  Hat tip to Global Economic Trend Analysis for the link.

  1. The article also shows up the problems of trying to use historical data to predict future behavior in a time of uncertainty and change. No good answer to that one, except perhaps to focus on the best techniques available and on changing them rapidly as new data becomes available. The days of a model that lasts for years are long gone I think.
