Florida Gov. Crist vows ‘power to the people’ with new insurance measures

In light of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist’s statement that new insurance measures will bring "power to the people," is the governor going to adopt this John Lennon song as the official soundtrack of his administration?

Crist’s people power is taking the form of promoting two more insurance measures — one that will allow the state-run insurer, Citizens Property, to sign up more homeowners and compete more directly with private insurance companies, and one that would forbid insurance companies from establishing or maintaining state subsidiaries, which limit companies’ risk to Florida only and do not draw on their national capital pools. The bills still must clear the Florida Senate and have not yet been taken up by the House, where they may face opposition.
